Beta Meeting 09/14

Hey you guys! Thank you to those who came to the meeting Friday morning!! :D We got through a lot of information so expect this to be a fairly long post, haha. Again, I want to emphasize how important it is that members are kept aware of all things going on Beta-related (service projects, fundraisers, polls, etc) so I highly encourage you to Follow By Email (to the left) so you can continue getting reminders and be free to email us any questions/concerns you may have.
First off, a few reminders:
  1. DUES & APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY FRI, SEPT 28TH to Mr. Kroeger in rm. 208
    • Candlelight Induction will take place in Early-Mid October!
  2. SIGN-UPS FOR COMMITTEES END FRI, SEPT 28TH
  3. POLLS FOR FALL CHARITY CLOSE ON FRI, SEPT 28TH @ 7:30am
  4. T-SHIRT DESIGNS ARE DUE BY NEXT MEETING, FRI, SEPT 28TH
    • Surprisingly, we have yet to receive any designs thus far for t-shirts! For this reason, we're pushing back the date for designs to Friday, Sept 28th. I highly encourage members to start submitting. What better way to show Beta spirit than from the amazing t-shirts we'll have? Keep in mind, these designs do not have to be super pretty. We just need a sketch - it's the ideas that matter!! The t-shirt company will be the ones to craft the designs!
Now, onto what we discussed during the meeting:
  1. Beta Garden
    • Thank you for those who came to the cleanup that past Tuesday! We were glad to see lots of people attend; 1/2 people planned for renovations (flowers, patio set, etc) , other 1/2 pulled weed and cleaned up
    • MAKE A SKETCH: How would YOU like the Beta Garden to look? This is a MEMBER garden; we want to see your ideas and creativity manifest in the renovation. As such, we want members to start sketching how they think the Beta Garden should be re-designed (don't worry about it being pretty, it's the ideas the matter!) For instance, where should the patio go? Should we have a fountain? Where would the plants be? How will we cover up the big sewage drain the middle?  Click here for a picture of the garden that you can reference for your sketches. Additionally, be free to come by the 400 hall to see the garden first hand to sketch as well; the door is almost always open so you can go in. Sketches can be emailed to Roma (roma.k.parikh@gmail.com)
    • For any art students (or those who like creating art), we're planning to paint a mural on the back wall, so everyone can see it when walking by that hall. Like the rest of the garden, we want the mural to be representative of the the Beta members; basically, we'd rather you guys make it and your personal touch. If you're interested in helping out with the mural, contact Roma!
    • GOAL: to finish the garden by Christmas Season so we can hang up lights and decorate! :)
  2. Fall Fundraising
    • Polls are up! Start voting for your favorite fall charity organization! Voting ends on Fri, Sept 28th @7:30AM! I'll have a separate post below regarding what each organization does and where are money would go if we raised money for them!
    • Our Fall Charity Event: Halloween Candy Gram Sales (hosted by Fundraising Committee)
      • Similar to the Candy Cane Grams we sold last year, except with different candies (candy corn this time, perhaps?)
      • If you want to help out, contact Matthias (matthias.wilder1@gmail.com)!
    • Other events suggested by fundraising are in the process of getting admin approval
  3. Membership
    • Beta Member of the Month Overview
      • Slips for nomination will be given at the last meeting every month (for the month of Sept, that would be Friday, the 28th)
      • MOTM gets certificate and award from the online Beta store
        • ppt entailing the awards will be posted soon

11/5 Meeting

It's decided: Our t-shirt design is "Let's make Beta Time" with Borat's thumbs up pose. On the back should be  all our names.
We'll try and get a drawn-up design and pricing over the next two meetings.

The Holiday Benefit Concert should be Friday, December 9.
If you've already talked to someone who wants to perform, let me know who and what act! You can Facebook message me. This isn't a trap for them; it's merely to gauge the numbers.

Beta Garden will meet this Thursday! If you're on landscaping committee, this is a great time to be involved.
Remember to keep track of your hours.

10/28 Meeting

Thank you for writing so many Thanksgiving letters for The Bert Show's Big Thank You! Now, dozens of soldiers will be getting a sweet letter for their holidays, thanks to your efforts.

Try and keep track of your own community service hours. Remember: every letter = 10 min of Beta-specific hours
Don't forget you need 10 hours (5 Beta-specific) this semester!

Dues should be turned in by the end of this week.

The poll for Fundraising is closing soon. If you haven't voted yet, go go go!
The Talent for a Cause Benefit Concert's cause is... Charity: Water. Look for more information on this later.

New T-shirt design!
KC and I came up with a Borat-themed shirt.
If you don't know what "sexytime" is, familiarize yourself:
So the shirt would be a design like:
and it would say "Let's make Beta time"
Colors can change.
Names may possibly be listed on the back.

10/14 Meeting

Come up with creative T-shirt designs!
Suggested: "You go Beta, you go Greata''
Please be free to comment below on any t-shirt design/slogan ideas you might have! We are hoping to get these t-shirts designed finalized by mid-November.
  • Dues/Applications should be turned in by the end of this month, so if you haven't, do so!
  • Landscaping/any other members will work on the Beta Garden every Tuesday and Thursday after school - it's mostly clean-up for now, but soon, we'll be planting things!
  • Talent for a Cause members: find a cause to donate the Benefit Concert funds to, and comment on this post:
  • Fundraising Committee: The original homework was to research one or two organizations that you would like club to raise money for. In addition to this, please bring in two or three fundraising ideas. (for example, we had discussed a bake sell in the past) Like I said before, I will ask that committee members present their ideas during the meeting. At the end of the upcoming meeting, we will vote upon prospective charity organizations that the club can raise money for and the type of fundraiser we may have (this is in addition to Talent for a Cause). If you have any questions, be free to comment below.
One last quick note: if you would like to make a powerpoint to present to the class along with your ideas, be free to! If it helps convey the message, it is encouraged. Either send it in via email (campbellbetaclub@gmail.com) or have it on a flashdrive so we can pull it up during the meeting.
